Code of Conduct

Thank you for being part of the Control System Integrators Association (CSIA) Community. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, CSIA has established some basic guidelines for participation in online and in-person spaces.

By joining and participating in CSIA events and online communities, you agree that you have read and will follow the rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions for topics that are appropriate for the environment. The Open Forums and events — both virtual and in person — are good places to solicit the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in an ongoing conversation.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions, contact CSIA staff.

To preserve a climate that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, CSIA reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership in all CSIA spaces — online and in person.

The Rules

  • Don’t challenge or attack others. Discussions are meant to stimulate conversation not to create contention. Let others have their say and employ active listening techniques.
  • Don’t post commercial messages. Contact people directly with product and service information if you believe it would help them. Engage others by responding to questions and posting your own. A consistent presence in the CSIA community will help build your “expert status” and grow name recognition.
  • Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on the discussions is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander and antitrust laws.
  • All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Do not post or say anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.
  • Please note carefully all items listed in the disclaimer and legal rules below, particularly regarding the copyright ownership of information posted to discussions.
  • Remember that the CSIA community and Open Forums participants have the right to reproduce postings.
  • Send your message only to the most appropriate discussion group(s). Do not spam several discussion groups with the same message.
  • All messages/topics must add to the body of knowledge. CSIA reserves the right to reject any message for any reason.

E-Group Etiquette

  • Include a signature tag on all messages. Include your name, affiliation, location.
  • State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.
  • Include only the relevant portions of the original message in your reply. Delete any header information, and put your response before the original posting.
  • Only send a message to the entire discussion group when it contains information that everyone can benefit from.
  • Send messages such as “thanks for the information” or “me, too” to individuals — not to the entire group.
  • Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list”, through the Open Forums. Instead, use the your settings/preferences to remove yourself from a list or manage notifications.
